The annual Bushey & Oxhey FC tournament saw more than 1,000 young players battling it out for trophies on Bank Holiday Monday.

Former Watford star Nick Wright, who scored a spectacular goal for the Hornets in the 1999 Championship Play-Off Final against Bolton Wanderers at Wembley, was there to hand out some of the prizes.

He was joined by some of the Watford Ladies’ first-team squad and also the Hornets’ matchday stadium announcer Emma Saunders and it is estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 spectators watched the action throughout the day.

The competition at the Metropolitan Police Sports Club was split into various age groups from Under-7s through to Under-16s.

Chorleywood Cardinals triumphed in the youngest age group while it was Chipperfield Corinthians who won the Under-8s trophy.

Parkfield Youth went home with the Under-9s trophy while Bushey & Oxhey Sharks were the Under-10 winners.

The Under-11s title went the way of Whetstone Wanderers’ A team while CharsYouth FC Royals got their hands on the Under-12s trophy.

The Under-13s trophy stayed close to home with Bushey & Oxhey Panthers winning that cup, while Blunham Youth FC were crowned champions at Under-14 level.

Bushey & Oxhey Pumas took the last prize on offer, winning the silverware in the Under-16 tournament.
