Almen Abdi's Watford future has been called into question with reports Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are chasing the midfielder's signature.
National media have linked Abdi, 29, with a move to Hillsborough days after he was absent from the Hornets' second and final pre-season game during their tour of Austria.
The Albanian-born Swiss international started 25 of Watford's Premier League games last season, coming on in another seven, but has featured in only two of the club's pre-season games, missing their opening encounter with Woking as well as Saturday's draw with Anzhi.
Wednesday are said to be eyeing up Abdi as one of a number of midfield options, but he would likely be missed from Vicarage Road after proving a popular figure during his four years with the club.
