Ollie Taverner has further underlined his considerable potential by winning the 15 years 100m breaststroke title at the British Summer Championships.

The former Queens’ School student qualified fastest in this morning’s heats in 1.06.55 but wiped a second-and-a-half off that time to win the final by almost a second in 1.05.04, with runner-up Archie Goodburn coming home in 1.06.02.

The North Watford swimmer, who now attends Mount Kelly Swimming School in Devon, returned to the water at Ponds Forge in Sheffield later this evening for the final of the 15 years 50m backstroke.

Having qualified ninth quickest in 28.34, he replicated this placing in the final, finishing in a marginally slower time of 28.69.

Taverner’s victory continues a year in which he has already won 50m breaststroke bronze in his first international in Italy, having broken the English 14 years 100m breaststroke age group record twice at the Olympic Trials in April.

A busy week for the 15-year-old continues tomorrow with the 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
