Herts Senior Cup Second Round

Evergreen joined fellow Watford Sunday League sides St Josephs and North Watford in the last 16 of the County Senior Cup after putting out Karen Pulis 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out following a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Evergreen had the worse possible start when they conceded an early goal after their defence was caught out by a long through ball, allowing the home striker to fire home. But they soon drew level when Jake Sahota volleyed home a cross.

In the second half, Evergreen had a goal disallowed before Pulis almost won it in the final minute when keeper Joss Dunham produced a reaction save to push a point-blank header onto the cross bar.

Dunham was the hero again in the shoot-out as he saved two kicks to put Evergreen through after they had missed their first kick.

The victory means they face Southbury at home for a place in the quarter-finals.

Herts Intermediate Cup Third Round

Woodside, who lost in last season’s Junior Cup Final, are through to the quarter-finals of the Intermediate Cup after they won the all-WSL tie against Chess United 4-0.

They will now face either Forever Young People or Saints FC at home on February 5.

The match was won in the first half as Woodside raced into a three-goal lead.

Ollie Lawford opened the scoring with a nice finish across the keeper into the far corner, before turning provider when he slid in Harry Beaumont to thump home a left-footed shot to double the advantage.

Lawford then scored a big contender for goal of the season with an audacious effort. With his back to the goal and from well outside the area, the player turned and hit a half-volley into the far corner, giving the Chess keeper no chance.

Woodside made several changes in the second half with the game already won, but they did add a fourth when a clearance from a Chess defender fell into the path of Beaumont who made no mistake to also score his second of the game.

Eric Hand Challenge Cup Second Round

Premier Division WD Bushey overcame a potential banana skin as they beat unbeaten Third Division team Everett Rovers 4-0, although the game was far closer than the scoreline suggests.

The WD keeper produced a fine triple save to keep his side in the game, then Everett’s Billy Powell struck the cross bar with a powerful header, but just before the break the top-flight outfit went ahead thanks to a free-kick.

They scored three further goals in the second half, including a penalty, as they ruthlessly punished some mistakes at the back.

Dion Belle netted twice for WD with Daniel Moss and Ryan Boyle also on target.

Division Two

The Cross beat the morning’s leaders King George 3-1 to replace them at the summit of the table.

King George went ahead on the stroke of half-time thanks to a penalty from Costa Evangelides, but the home side hit back with a dominant second-half display with goals from Curtis Seaward, Stephfani Grimes-Ford and Raphael Wiredu.

Dome Bar are in second place after they ran out 3-0 winners against BBFC, Ben Kelly with a brace and one from Timmy Alwyn.

Glenn SSC swept past second bottom Sparta Phoenix 6-1, Chris Blunden with a hat-trick, alongside goals from Jack Read, Tom Kennedy and John Smith. Sam Groves netted the sole reply for Phoenix.

Dunnings Bar beat Frances George 4-1, Sean Gowen with a double supported by strikes from Flynn Duncan and Harley Wilson. Gary Wallace scored the consolation goal.

Division Three

Leaders Inter have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the table after they came out on top in a tough game against second from bottom PTH United thanks to a single goal from Gabriel Casagrande.

Rio Rovers beat AFC Watford 4-3, Jordan Aston-Woods with a brace alongside goals from Richard McCrossan and Dean Purdham. Paddy Moran, Dermot O’Sullivan and Joe Rock replied for AFC.

Bricket Wood Acorns and Chorleywood Club FC shared eight goals in a 4-4 draw.

Taylor Pope, Alex Michael, Jack Micklewright and Aidan O'Connor scored for Acorns, with George Blanks netting a hat-trick and a goal from Jack Billings for the visitors.
