Herts Junior Cup Quarter-Final

Glenn SCC are now just 90 minutes away from the final at Letchworth on April 30 after they came through a tight game against Athletico 99 by a single goal.

The first half was a stalemate, with the best chance falling to Glenn’s Sam Clark who saw his effort strike a post.

Glenn started to take control of the tie after the break, and on the hour mark they scored the decisive goal, with Frankie Henley netting with a cooly taken finish.

They had a further chance to seal the victory as they hit the woodwork for a second time, Jack Craze this time the unlucky player after being set up by Clark.

They now Fairfield Park away for a place in the final.

FC Unicorn beat St Josephs 1-0 and gained some measure of revenge for their 8-0 defeat in the first league encounter in November.

The only chance of note in the opening 45 minutes came from Unicorn when captain Sheldon Berkeley forced a good save from the hosts’ keeper.

The winning goal came in the second half when Louis McNamara found the run of Danny Warwick over the top of the defence and he deftly lobbed the keeper on the angle from around 15 yards.

The Unicorn defence held firm late on against some heavy Joes pressure, with keeper Andrew Burnell forced to make two fine saves to preserve the lead as his team held on for the victory.

The defeat means St Josephs have lost ground to the top two, WD Bushey and North Watford, who both enjoyed home victories.

WD Bushey beat Cassiobury Rangers 3-1, although they had to do it the hard way, coming back from a goal down early in the first half when Conor Callanan slipped in Rob Ladmore, who was able to get to the ball ahead of the onrushing keeper to score.

The home side hit back in style though, thanks to a stunning first-half hat-trick from Joshua Quinlivan.

The first came from a one-on-one chance created by Dion Belle, and he repeated the trick for the second, this time set up by Gbohun Palmer.

Quinlivan completed his hat-trick just before the break with a penalty after Ramon Salami-Rasheed had been brought down in the box.

The victory means WD maintain a five-point lead at the top of the table over reigning champions North Watford, who do have three games in hand, after they beat Evergreen 5-2.

Ben Alexander opened the scoring with a good near-post header from a Reece Cameron corner and netting his second by volleying in from an Ashley Lewis header.

Evergreen pulled a goal back just before the break when Max Sahota flicked home a free-kick.

In the second half, Lewis then scored a brace from the penalty spot and Bogdan Stolboushin headed in from another Cameron corner, although it was Evergreen who completed the scoring through Tom Verbana with an effort into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Abbots Langley gained a first win of the season over the side directly above them in the table, Old Fullerians, with a 3-2 win after losing 2-1 to the same opponents just seven days previously.

Abbots had a one-goal lead at the break after Ben Knights slotted home following a Mark Riddick flick on.

Riddick himself netted on the hour mark following a goalmouth scramble.

Fullerians pulled themselves back into the game when Charlie Hailey slotted home a penalty, but Abbots then made it 3-1 when Ozzie Ogbebor scored a fine solo effort.

The game was not over though, as Hailey scored his second of the contest late on, but it was too little too late for the home side.

Division One

The game between the top two, Watford Sports and Hertfordshire Eagles, ended in a 3-3 draw.

Eagles went ahead in the first half when after Ed Rogers was fouled and Jack McLaughlin stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Shortly after half-time, Glenn O’Malley had a shot blocked by a Watford player’s arm resulting in another penalty. This time O’Malley stepped up and slotted the penalty away.

Sports then battled back into the game, pulling one back through Harry Bennett before Ben French equalised.

Eagles restored their lead with 20 minutes remaining O’Malley scored his second of the game, this time with a chip over the keeper, but with ten minutes left Bennett also completed his brace to leave the top two with a point each.

Woodside moved into fourth place with a 3-1 win over SOCA.

Ollie Lawford kept up his remarkable scoring run, as he netted a hat-trick.

The first came when he raced onto a long goal kick to score, and the second saw him punish a defensive error.

SOCA pulled a goal back in the second half with a well-taken effort from Reece Sutton, but it was Lawford who completed his treble and sealed the win with a long-range effort.

AFC Hatch End have a first point of the season after they drew 4-4 with Chess United, but they were left ruing a chance to get all three points after letting slip 3-1 and 4-2 leads.

It was Chess who took the lead through Cameron Murray when he scored from a tight angle, but that lead had disappeared by the break after Hatch End struck three times.

Murray scored his second of the game early in the second half, but it was soon 4-2 to the visitors, who seemed on course for a first victory, but Chess hit back with two late goals from Alex Hanson.

Mark Bennett scored a double for Hatch End, supported by goals from Ryan Fernandes and Jamie O'Brien.

Division Two

The Cross won the big game at the top of the table as they beat Dome Bar 5-2 to open up a four-point lead at the summit.

Raphael Wiredu hit a hat-trick, supported by goals from David Flannery and Chi Ejiogu.

Jay Haynes scored a double for the home side, whose title hopes seem to be slipping away.

Dunnings Bar are up to fifth place after they beat Frances George 2-1 thanks to two James Fitzgerald goals, with Ashley Cox replying.

CF Fajeczka beat second-from-bottom Sparta Phoenix 4-2, Joseph Belloni with a double for the visitors, alongside goals from Alex Bushnell and Viktor Roman.

Nelson Gomez and James Redfearn were on target for the home side.

Division Three

The league’s bottom division is shaping up for a thrilling end to the season with just six points dividing the top five teams.

Leaders Inter suffered a fourth defeat of the campaign after they went down 2-0 to Abbots Wanderers, Andy Denyer and Ashley Marchant with the goals as Wanderers moved into third place with the win.

In between them are Batchworth who beat bottom-of-the-table PTH United 5-0, Mikel Walsh’s treble taking his tally to an impressive 18 for the season and supported by goals from Alex Hollis and Dylan Rose.

AFC Watford gained a second win of the season as they beat Chorleywood Club AFC 3-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Jason Coffey.

Steve Quarrington and Luke Williams got the replies for Chorleywood.

Josh Towle, Andre Federico and Elliott Smith scored as Woodside Reserves beat Everett Rovers 3-0.
