Terry Deveruex Presidents Cup Group B

Both North Watford and FC Unicorn confirmed their places in the semi-finals of the Watford Sunday League President’s Cup with impressive away wins.

North Watford beat Cassiobury Rangers 7-3 to seal top spot on goal difference.

They had to recover after conceding an early Rangers goal scored by Nathan Page, but by half-time North Watford had built up a 3-1 advantage.

First Ashley Lewis rifled an effort into the bottom corner after being set up by Conor Flanagan, before the roles were reversed for Flanagan to score from the edge of the area. Lewis then netted his second of the game, and his side’s third goal, when he turned a defender and slotted past the Rangers keeper.

North Watford kept up the scoring in the second half, with Owen Ayres getting his own double, along with goals from Karl Penny and Corum Chase against his old team.

Rangers pulled back two late goals through Page’s second of the tie and one from Aidan Lesslie.

FC Unicorn also had a comfortable morning with a 3-0 win over last season’s runners-up Old Fullerians.

Danny Warwick scored twice in the first half, the first a turn and volley, while the second saw him tap home from close range after his first effort came back of the post.

Jack Halcomb completed the scoring in the second half when he was left unmarked at a corner.

Current Premier Division league leaders WD Bushey, who are chasing a league and cup treble, sealed their place in the last four with a 1-0 win over Abbots Langley Club.

Abbots were left to rue missing several good chances, particularly in the first half, before Bushey grabbed the winner in the second period when a Dion Belle cross into the box was headed home by an unmarked Nathan Ravenscroft.

Chairman’s Cup Quarter-Finals

The Second Division is guaranteed a representative in the final as both CF Fajeczka and Glenn SSC beat First Division opponents and will now face either other for a place in the final.

Glenn needed extra-time to overcome Watford Sports thanks to two goals in the second period from Frankie Henley and Chris Blunden.

All the goals came in the first half as Fajeczka beat Chess United 2-1.

Shkemb Nishevic and Ryan Emmanuel gave the hosts a two-goal lead, before Chess pulled themselves back into the game when Ali Shale scored with a half-volley on the turn.

Both sides failed to take chances after the break and it was the lower ranked side who progressed through to the last four.

Woodside won the all-First Division tie beating SOCA 3-0 to set up a mouth-watering semi-final against fellow title contenders Hertfordshire Eagles.

Woodside’s in-form striker Ollie Lawford, who looks like being the signing of the season, struck yet another hat-trick, this time in the first half with two goals in the bottom corner and one into the top corner.

This took his tally to 27 goals in 11 games in all competitions since moving to the club following the folding of Watford Town back in October.

Division One

Langleybury CC bounced from their previous week's 9-0 defeat to gain a third win of the season with a 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Chalfont Saints.

This gives them some breathing space at the bottom of the table as they now hold a five-point advantage over second from bottom Saints.

Both sides missed chances in the first half, before Langleybury scored three times after the interval.

Oliver Ilott opened the scoring with diving header to round off a passing move. Charlie Hobbs beat four players to double the lead with a solo effort, and the win was sealed by a penalty from Max Hurt.

Division Two

Leaders The Cross now have a six-point lead at the top of the table after a 3-0 home win over Frances George, Raphael Wiredu, David McDonagh and Chike Dale with the goals.

West Herts moved up into second place with a 4-1 victory over Dunnings Bar, Brandon Whitman, Paul Shelock, Liam Andrews and James Bell with the goals, with Colm Finnegan replying for Dunnings.

King George, who led the table at Christmas, have endured a torrid first two months of 2023 and they have dropped to seventh in the table after going down 3-1 at home at home to St Josephs Reserves, who gained just a second league win of the season.

Liam Smyth netted a double for Joes Reserves, along with a goal from Luke Stallard. Karl Davidson scored the George reply.

BB beat Sparta Phoenix 4-0, Danny Wallis with a double, supported by goals from James Barnett and Arran Bhad.

Division Three

Once again the league’s bottom division delivered plenty of goals, this time 27 in just the five games.

Inter returned to the top of the table with a straightforward 3-0 home win over AFC Watford, Gabriel Casagrande with two goals and one for James Oldham.

They now hold a two-point lead over Abbots Wanderers who were held 2-2 at home by Woodside Reserves, Jordan Standley and Ashley Marchant scoring for the home side, with Tyrone Brandy and Andre Federico replying for Woodside.

Third-placed Batchworth are still right in the mix and they kept up their high scoring with a 7-0 demolition of Bricket Wood Acorns, John Robertson with a brace, with the other five goals coming from Marcus Rivers, Alex Hollis, Hugh Phillips, Mikel Walsh and Greg Campbell.

Chorleywood Club AFC are now in fourth place, three points behind Batchworth, and they now have to play them for the next two successive weeks, games vital for both sides’ promotion ambitions.

On Sunday they came through 4-3 against Rio Rovers, Catalin Pirtache and George Blanks with two goals each, as Jack Wilson, Richard McCrossan and Alex Lubin replied for Rio.

Everett Rovers are in fifth place, seven points behind Inter, but they do have five games in hand after a 5-1 win over bottom-placed PTH United.

David Spencer scored twice, with the other goals coming from Harry Durbin, Louie Muncie and Reneekay Jones-McClean. Jason Locke replied for PTH.
