Herts Junior Cup Round Two

It was another successful morning’s work for the Watford Sunday League’s representatives in the County Junior Cup with seven more sides joining the already qualified Sparta Phoenix in the third round.

Everett Rovers, whose previous team won this competition in 2018, saw the class of 2023 move comfortably into the next round with an impressive 6-0 away victory over Welwyn Warriors Reserves.

The game was over as a contest by half-time, with Rovers finding the net four times in the opening 45 minutes thanks to goals from Archie Potton, Bernard Ankamah, Lucas Roberts and an own goal.

Jordan Standley added a fifth in the second half before Lucas Roberts completed the scoring with his second of the game.

The other Second Division side through are Frances George who enjoyed a 4-2 away victory over Stotford Rovers.

It didn’t look being a good morning for George as the home side had the better of the early play and went ahead after a goal on the counter-attack.

George equalised in added-on time at the end of the first half thanks to a well-struck penalty from Dexter Franklin-Beck.

The visitors started the second period brightly and doubled their lead when Elliot Kay-Jessop won the flick-on just inside the opposing half, allowing Daniel Watts to hit a dipping strike which gave the keeper no chance.

Franklin-Beck had the chance to make it 3-1 but this time he missed a second penalty, but soon after Michel McMorrin scored from a free-kick from inside his own half which bounced over the Rovers keeper and into an empty net.

Franklin-Beck added his second and George’s fourth, although Rovers pulled one back ten minutes from time.

The other three sides to progress all represent the league’s bottom division.

The scoring was opened thanks to an own goal before Lui Potiuk forced the ball over the line from close range.

The win was confirmed in the second half thanks to a header from Tom Garratt.

Saracens made a fight of it, scoring twice in five minutes midway through the half through a free-kick and a penalty, but Liam Coles put the result beyond doubt when he netted five minutes from time.

Chris Blunden opened the scoring mid-way through the first half before Lewis Putman added a second before the break.
