Watford Sunday League: Glenn to face WD Bushey in Herts Senior Cup

Glenn went ahead in the first half when Simeon Armstrong scored with a scorpion flick into the top corner, then shortly after Chris Blunden made it 2-0 with a well-taken finish from a through ball.

Cassiobury pulled themselves back into the game early in the second half when a quick free-kick saw Conor Callanan slip the ball through to Nathan Page who made no mistake from close range.

The game was ended as contest though when Glenn netted twice in as many minutes, first through Frankie Henley and then Blunden with his second goal of the tie, before Will Bishop completed the scoring with a header.

Herts Junior Cup Fourth Round

It was a disappointing morning for the league’s clubs in the Junior Cup, with only Sparta Phoenix making it through to the last eight after they came through a seven-goal thriller against fellow WSL side St Josephs Reserves.

It was a classic game of two halves with Sparta racing into a four-goal lead in the first period thanks to some clinical finishing from Sam Groves, Nelson Gomes, Ralph Thompson and Philippe Clarke.

A penalty save from Ross Powell just before half-time prevented Joes from pulling a goal back, and that turned out to be vital, as in the second half the visitors rallied, scoring three times through Robbie Tocher, Lee Benning and Luke Broad.

Despite heavy Joes pressure in the final minutes, Sparta hung on for the 4-3 win.

They will now face Bullsmoor United for a place in the semi-finals after they defeated Carpenders Park Royals 2-0.

Bullsmoor opened the scoring in the first ten minutes thanks to a penalty.

The home side dominated the following 70 minutes, missing several good chances, including a penalty of their own, before they were hit on the counter-attack with ten minutes left.

Both Everett Rovers and Abbots Wanderers went out on penalties.

Everett drew 2-2 with Hertford Club De Futbol before going out 3-0 on spot-kicks, having led 2-1 with just three minutes of the tie remaining.

Hertford took the lead early on when a long through ball left a one-on-one opportunity.

Everett responded well with goals from Jordan Standley and Archie Potton but were hit by the late equaliser, before losing in the shoot-out.

Abbots drew 1-1 with Northaw Reserves, with Alfie Ball netting their goal, before going down 3-1 in the shoot-out.

West Herts were the other WSL side to fall at this hurdle as they suffered a 6-3 away defeat to Hoddesdon, with the goals coming from Roscoe Tebbs, Dylan Cayton and an own goal.

Eric Hand Challenge Cup Second Round

Holders St Josephs safely came through the proverbial banana skin tie, overcoming First Division title contenders SOCA 5-2.

Dean Brinton headed Joes in front after a cross from Taylor Cobb, and the lead was soon doubled by Samuel Afolabi, but SOCA pulled a goal back just before half-time through Micah Burton.

In the second half, Joes made it 3-1 after Daniel Griggs crossed for Keane Fullwood to finish at the far post, and they went on to score twice more in quick succession.

First a Cobb corner was headed home by Harry Seabrook, before Finlay O'Reilly added the fifth, with SOCA pulling a second goal back late on through Stevie Dowling.

Joes now face fellow Premier Division side Abbots Langley Club in the next round.

Terry Devereux President's Cup First Round

CF Watford Continentals ran out 4-2 winners in their tie against fellow First Division mid-table outfit Old Fullerians.

The game was effectively over by the interval after CF striker Alex Bushnell scored a first-half hat-trick.

Fullerians pulled a goal back early in the second period when a corner was flicked on by Matt Simpson for Charlie Hailey to hook the ball back over his shoulder and into the far corner.

Joe Belloni scored CF’s fourth goal on the break in the final ten minutes, before Fullerians netted a second with the last kick of the game from Chris Colman.

Premier Division

North Watford bounced back from dropping two points the previous week with a thumping 9-2 win over Forza Watford to open up a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

Forza opened the scoring through Clayton Blake, but this merely stirred the champions into action as they struck six times in the first half.

First Daryl Brown drove from the halfway line before unleashing a fierce drive into the bottom corner, then Ben Alexander rolled his defender and curled home a low drive. Two became three when Marvin Sordell played in Alexander who squared for Ali Kahn net from close range.

The fourth goal arrived when Alexander pounced on a mistake from the Forza keeper and tapped in.

Jevan El-Kaffash then scored the goal of the game when he controlled a high through ball on the turn and rounded the keeper to make it 5-1.

North Watford still weren’t finished before the break as Brown added his second of the game with a perfectly struck free-kick from the edge of the box to make it 6-1.

The goals continued to flow in the second half, with Ben Hiney scoring the seventh with a volley, before James Mullane got the eighth after the keeper spilled his first effort.

Forza pulled a goal back from Giuseppe Delgaudio, before Hiney completed the scoring with his second of the game and his team’s ninth.

Third-placed WD Bushey are still in the title chase, ten points behind North Watford, although they do have two games in hand after they beat bottom-placed FC Unicorn 2-1.

Joshua Quinlivan and Jordan Toomey scored the goals with Callum O'Connor replying for Unicorn, who have lost their six league games so far.

A point and a place behind WD Bushey are Evergreen who won the Abbots Langley derby, beating Abbots Langley Club 1-0 thanks to a deflected goal from Olly Cripps in the second half.

Division One

Chalfont Saints moved to the top of the table with a thumping 6-1 home win over Chess United.

It was actually Chess who took the lead after debutant Jamie Ivory struck a half-volley that dipped in just under the crossbar, but that was as good as it got for his side.

Saints immediately responded with the equaliser from a corner from Geoffrey Adebayo, and Andre Ford then struck twice before half-time to make it 3-1.

Saints scored again early in the second half as Ford completing his hat-trick, Will Jones capitalised on a keeper error for the fifth and Sean Haugh wrapped up the points with a fine finish.

The Cross missed the chance to remain in the thick of the title race as they slipped to a single goal defeat to Watford United, with Adam Anwar scoring in the first half to seal what was only the second league win of the season for his side.

Division Two

Dunnings Bar are up into third place after they beat Hertfordshire Athletic 1-0 with a goal from Ryan Mangan.

Inter won the big game at the wrong end of the table, overcoming Frances George 3-1 for a third league win of the campaign thanks to a brace from Gabriel Casagrande and a single strike from James Oldham. Dexter Franklin-Beck netted the George reply.

Division Three

Leaders Woodside Reserves made it 12 wins from 13 games with a narrow 3-2 victory over Chorleywood Club AFC.

Josh Towle netted a brace for the table toppers with Jamie Dunlop getting the other goal, while George Blanks and Deryn Fowler scoring the two goals for the home side who still remain in the promotion hunt in third place.

FC Railway are Woodside’s nearest challengers and they kept stubbornly on their tail with a 3-0 win over bottom-of-the table PTH United who remain without a single point from their 12 games so far.

Domenic Leacock scored twice with the other goal coming from George O'Mahony.

Everett Rovers Reserves achieved a third league success of the season with 4-2 victory over Mill Hill Village.

Regan Weiser scored twice, supported by single goals from Cody Chamberlain and Nathan Fowler.

Despite being fourth from bottom in the table, Mill Hill have scored the fourth highest number of goals in the division, 29 to date, and Harley Fonti and Aidan Woods contributed to that total on Sunday.

Abbots Athletic and Surely Wood fought out a 1-1 draw, Cassian Lee scoring for the home side with Brett Fincham replying for Wood.
