Watford Sunday League: FC Unicorn claim first victory of season

Forza went 2-0 up after just 11 minutes through a Giuseppe Delgaudio brace but Max Halcomb grabbed one back just two minutes later when he headed home a Danny Warwick corner.

However, within four minutes, the two-goal lead was restored as Delgaudio completed a quick-fire hat-trick.

The goals continued to flow as Krasi Makaveev made it 3-2 just before the half-hour mark when he pounced on a goalkeeping error, but Forza looked to have put the game beyond their opponents by half-time after adding two more before the break through Greg Bishop and Clayton Blake.

The match was far from over though, as a revitalised Unicorn netted twice in the opening nine minutes of the second half to make it 5-4.

First, Danny Warwick headed home a Jamie Calvin free-kick, and it was the same two players who combined again when Calvin pounced on a loose ball and found Warwick who fired into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

Unicorn were now on top and they equalised thanks to a second defensive mix up of the game by Forza when a defender headed the ball past his own keeper following Mark Welling's long throw.

Warwick secured his hat-trick to give his team the lead for the first time in the game, and then deep into added-on time Makaveev won a penalty and duly dispatched it to complete an impressive comeback by his side.

North Watford defeated Glenn SSC 4-2 to move seven points clear at the top of the table.

The game was effectively over by the break after North Watford has scored three unanswered goals.

Gurkan Gokman gave them the lead after slotting past the on-rushing keeper, Daryl Brown made it two from a corner before Lee Armitt raced from the halfway line and beat three defenders before firing into the roof of the net.

Glenn pulled themselves back into the game at the start of the second half thanks to goals from George Baker and a penalty from Lewis Putman, but North Watford sealed the victory with a spot-kick of their own converted by Ashley Lewis.

Division One

Chalfont Saints now have an eight-point advantage at the summit after they beat fourth-placed The Cross 3-0.

Following a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken from a very unlikely source, goalkeeper Kennedy Newbert who scored direct from a goal kick when it bounced once before going over the head of his opposition number for a truly bizarre goal.

Saints’ new signing Connor Spinks then netted twice on his debut to seal an important three points for the league leaders.

SOCA, in second place, kept up the chase after defeating Langleybury 7-0 with five of the seven goals coming in the first half.

The opener was an own goal, while the second came when Jordan Austin set up George Coffey to score.

Coffey’s second of the contest, this time from the edge of the area, made it 3-0, a Micah Burton volley soon made it four and the fifth arrived before the break when Stevie Dowling chipped the keeper from around 20 yards out.

In the second half Austin saw a penalty saved but he made some amends when he once again set up Coffey to net, which completed his hat-trick.

The final goal came when Leon Mason scored from a penalty.

CF Watford Continentals achieved a fourth league win of the campaign after beating Chess United 2-1.

Alex Bushnell and Matthew Shaw both netted with well-taken efforts in the first half.

Chess pulled a goal back early in the second half through Jamie Ivory, but despite heavy pressure and several missed chances CF held on for all three points.

Batchworth are still bravely battling to stay in the division, and the bottom-placed side picked up a third draw of the season, and a sixth point overall, after a 1-1 result with Old Fullerians.

Fullerians took the lead in the first half after a corner from the left from Jake Entwistle caused havoc in the box, before going in off Batchworth’s Dillon Chamberlin.

Batchworth equalised in the second half thanks to half-time substitute Hugh Phillipps who scored from 20 yards.

Division Two

Everett Rovers have a six-point lead at the top and remain unbeaten this season after they got the better of second-from-bottom Dome Bar 7-3.

Rovers’ goals came from a Jordan Standley hat-trick, a brace from Lucas Roberts, a single from Archie Potton and the goal of the game from Harry Durbin.

Jay Haynes netted his own double for Dome, alongside a goal from James Armstrong.

West Herts beat bottom-placed Abbots Wanderers 4-1 to move into second place.

Dylan Caton scored twice alongside goals from Brandon Williams and Roscoe Tebbs, with Andy Denyer replying for the home side.

Frances George overcame Hertfordshire Athletic 6-4, Dexter Franklin-Beck notching twice, with Tom Minton, Daniel Watts, Gary Hennicke and Brett Beaumont also scoring for the home side.

The four goals for Athletic came through a Daniel Linfield double, and one each for Evan King and Jack McLaughlin.

This makes Athletic the division’s highest goal scorers with 41 - one more than leaders Everett - despite only sitting in sixth place in the division.

Division Three

Bricket Wood Acorns moved up three places and away from the wrong end of the division after a 5-0 home win over Abbots Athletic, who have fallen to second from bottom.

Alex Michael led the way with a hat-trick and Jack Micklewright netted twice.

AFC Watford and Everett Rovers Reserves shared the points after a 2-2 draw.

Peter Rock and Evan Quinn were on target for AFC and Regan Weiser and Cody Chamberlain replied for the visitors.

Eric Hand Challenge Cup Third Round

Holders St Josephs won the all-Premier Division affair against Abbots Langley 4-2.

Ronnie Blagden gave Joes the lead when he lofted the ball over the keeper’s head, before he quickly doubled his tally with the goal of the game from a free-kick outside the box.

Abbots pulled one back when good play from Kachi Njoku left Ben Knights with an easy finish, but Joes extended their advantage before the break after Mitchell Koch flicked the ball home.

Blagden completed his hat-trick midway through the second half before Abbots netted their second when a long ball caused a defensive mix up, allowing Knights to net again.

First Division Watford Sports defeated Second Division Inter 5-2.

Harry Foley opened the scoring, a second followed when Taylor Kemp followed up on his own penalty to double the lead, but Inter pulled one back before half-time through Gabriel Casagrande.

The second half started well for Sports as Luke Carter slotted into the bottom left corner, but Inter replied again through a Sam Conway penalty.

But that was as good as it got for the home side as substitute Conor Cummins made it 4-2 with a finish into the top left-hand corner, and Joe Blagden fired hard and low into the bottom left of the net to complete the scoring.

Terry Deveruex President’s Cup First Round

WD Bushey are the final team through from the first round after they beat Cassiobury Rangers 3-0 in an all-Premier Division encounter.

All the goals came in the second half, with Hodje Almeida-Joaquin breaking the deadlock ten minutes after the restart when he beat three Cassiobury players before finding the back of the net.

Jake Twomey doubled the lead with a calm finish from inside the box after playing a one-two with Massimo Sinisi, and it was Sinisi who completed the scoring in some style with a fine effort from outside the area.

Denis Jackson Intermediate Cup Second Round

Chorleywood Club AFC racked up 14 unanswered goals against PTH United.

Steve Quarrington and Jordan Allen both scored hat-tricks, Dennis Fibsan and George Blanks netted twice each, with the other goals coming from Neal Pearson, Dan Cardozo, Adam Cayze and Joe Berzins.

St Josephs Reserves edged out Sparta Phoenix 3-2, John Nott, Robbie Tocher and Luke Stallard with the Joes goals and Nelson Gomes and Philippe Clarke replying for Phoenix.

Watford Youth Sports overcame Dunnings Bar 3-1 thanks to goals from the two Ollie’s, Frost and Brown, with Frost scoring twice.

Dunnings’ consolation was scored by Flynn Duncan.

Surely Wood and Carpenders Park Royals required penalties to separate them following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

Keith McAspurn and Bernardo Silva scored the goals for each side, before Royals edged through the shoot-out 4-3.
