Fears that a bus was on fire in Watford saw multiple crews race to the scene yesterday (April 28).

Herts Fire and Rescue Service were called at 9.19pm on April 28 to the incident outside the TK Maxx in Dalton Way.

Two engines were sent from the Watford station and found the bus had an overheated front brake, a spokesperson said, but no flames were visible.

Passengers had already evacuated the vehicle by the time the crews arrived, who used the water hose to cool the brake.

Kitchen fire

Earlier that evening, multiple fire crews were also called out after they received reports of a kitchen fire at 7.54pm.

Three fire engines from the Watford and Garston stations were sent to an address in Cezanne Road where they found a chip pan “well alight” in the kitchen.

They used a fire blanket to extinguish the blaze and cleared the smoke from the flat and hallway using ventilation fans.
